Queensland Remote Aboriginal Media

About QRAM

QRAM supports remote Indigenous broadcasting across Queensland, working alongside local stations to provide training and support.

Queensland Remote Aboriginal Media (QRAM) is a non-profit Aboriginal Corporation and one of eight Remote Indigenous Media Organisations (RIMOs) in Australia.

Our main QRAM hub provides radio support services to remote Queensland communities.

Many communities still refer to their stations as BRACS (Broadcast Remote Aboriginal Communities). Funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) as Remote Indigenous Broadcasting Services (RIBS) program, established in the 1980s.

Today, QRAM is funded to support 10 remote community radio stations across remote Queensland.

Our services include:

  • Deliver Indigenous radio services across Far North Queensland
  • Support RIBS stations and local operations
  • Produce local, cultural and language content
  • Share community, news and emergency information
  • Mentor and train Indigenous broadcasters
  • Install and maintain broadcast equipment and infrastructure
  • Support and promote community events and campaigns
  • Manage compliance, reporting and coordination

QRAM specialises in finding innovative solutions to the many challenges faced by broadcasters in remote areas.

QRAM Aboriginal Corporation was formed in 2006, becoming fully operational in 2008 and is governed by The Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC).

Our goal is to help our communities share their voice.

Since the formation of QRAM, there has been a revitalisation of broadcasting activities in remote Queensland.

Stations that had been dormant have ‘dusted themselves off’ and are now providing essential services to their communities.

Stations are community-run, delivering essential local news, events, and information.
