Broadcasting from the Western Cape, Black Star Pormpuraaw shares stories, music, and community news in a region where Kuuk Thaayorre and Wik languages continue to thrive.
Pormpuraaw is a remote Aboriginal community on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, home to around 600 residents from the Thaayorre, Wik, Bakanh, and Yir Yoront peoples.

Known for its strong cultural heritage, the community includes 16 outstations and maintains deep connections to traditional language, customs, and land.
Governed by the Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council, the community manages a range of services including health, education, aged care, women’s shelter, library, ranger programs, and an all-weather airport.
Pormpuraaw is celebrated for its vibrant arts scene and stunning coastal environment, offering rich biodiversity, fishing, and cultural experiences. Visitors are encouraged to connect with the council before visiting.
