Lockhart River is a remote Aboriginal community located on the eastern coast of the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, approximately 800 km north of Cairns.
The locality includes several islands off the east coast: Chapman Island, Lloyd Island, Rocky Island, Sherrard Island, and Sunter Island, all within the Aboriginal Shire of Lockhart River.

The population of Lockhart River is predominantly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, with a significant portion of the community identifying as such. The community is governed by the Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council, which provides essential services including housing, roads, community development, and cultural programs.
Lockhart River is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, pristine tropical beaches, and rainforest areas within the Iron Range National Park. The community actively participates in cultural events and maintains strong connections to traditional lands and practices.
