AOD Awareness Resources
Queensland Remote Aboriginal Media is proud to present our new alcohol and other drug (AOD) awareness resources developed in partnership with communities.
The campaign includes 12 radio segments, along with posters, brochures, and social media content designed to support awareness and community conversations.

We’d love you to use this content in your communities to help reduce stigma, encourage better attitudes towards people who use drugs and alcohol, and support safer behaviours around alcohol and other drug use.
Please explore the resources below and download them, or contact ian@qram.com.au to order FREE copies of the brochures and posters.
Produced by Queensland Remote Aboriginal Media in partnership with the Queensland Mental Health Commission.

We’re all in control of our stories
Those stories don’t need to be about alcohol or drugs.
They can be about culture, community and Country.
They can be about our health, our future and our little ones.
Your story could be about…
Taking your family out on Country,
Keeping our culture and our community strong for future generations,
or being the ancestor our children will thank.
Your story could be about…
Listening to the sound of the campfire and the bush at night,
and remembering that alcohol and drugs were never a part of our ancestor’s lives.
Your story could be about…
Knowing that drugs and alcohol can make you sick, both in the short and long term,
Remembering that what you do to your body, you do to your spirit and your mob,
and knowing that there’s no shame in seeking some help.
If alcohol or drugs are making you sick, it’s okay to reach out for help.
Have a yarn to someone at your medical service, or call 13YARN on 13 92 76.
It’s amazing what just talking to someone can do, and how many mob out there want to help.

Navigating Mental Health, Alcohol & Drug Challenges with Commissioner Ivan Frkovic
In this episode, MJ is joined in the studio by Queensland Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic for a powerful conversation about the rising challenges of mental health, alcohol, and drug use across Far North Queensland — and what real solutions look like on the ground.
Commissioner Frkovic has been travelling across the state, speaking directly with community members, Elders, and local organisations to understand what’s working, what’s not, and what support First Nations communities need most.
While every community has its own story, he explains that common pressures — financial stress, relationships, alcohol and drug use, and limited access to early support — are affecting people everywhere.

Strong Choices, Strong Future
My story is not about alcohol or drugs. It’s about being a good role model for my little ones and my nieces and nephews, making my own strong choices, and knowing that there’s plenty of others like me doing the same. We’re all in control of our stories.
Strong, Proud and In Control
My story is not about alcohol or drugs. It’s about being healthy and being part of the team, being in charge and not charged up, being strong and proud.
There’s Strength in Reaching Out
My story is not about alcohol or drugs. It’s about knowing there’s no shame in seeking help, reaching out when alcohol or drugs were making me sick, and being strong for myself, my family and my community.
Talking Helps
My story is not about alcohol or drugs. It’s about knowing there’s no shame in seeking help. It’s amazing what just talking to someone can do, and how many mob out there want to help.
Strong Stories, Strong Culture
My story is strong and it doesn’t need alcohol or drugs. It’s about my culture, my Country and my family, listening to the sound of the campfire and the bush at night, and remembering that alcohol and drugs were never part of our ancestor’s lives.
